Hanna ten Doornkaat's work consists of narrative
scenes which are exhibited as installations and as photographic
representations. Her fictional scenarios explore the problematic
relationship with our environment; the urban landscapes and how
we become increasingly divorced from nature. In our daily lives
we are surrounded by a landscape of symbols through a profusion
of objects and images which have direct and indirect effects on
our landscapes. These symbols are the tools of an industry which
thrives on the creation of illusions.
'Haunted' is a series of photographs which derive from these symbols
and illusions. The tiny objects such as beach huts or butterflies
are made of food packaging and familiar labels such as the golden
arches of MacDonald's, Coke or Wrigley's Spearmint; placed in natural
settings and photographed as close-ups.
Hanna ten Doornkaat graduated from Wimbledon School of Art in
2002. She has exhibited widely in the UK and overseas, including
a solo show in Germany.
