'Disturbances'
is a new body of work, in which Edwards uses landscape photography
to explore his relationship with his surroundings. Each image
depicts an encounter with a space often overlooked, a unique
natural beauty which exhibits some evidence of human disturbances
or occupation such as footprints in the mud or overgrown allotments
left to nature. These locations often exist on the cusp of
extinction, occupying a shifting position, both culturally
and topographically, as the environment expands over and around
these disregarded areas.
Using a large format plate camera Mark Edwards is
able to record every detail of the image with clarity. These photographs
chart his personal relationship to the world of experience and
existence, they are the places he has settled and travelled, the
accumulation of his moments.
Mark Edwards has exhibited widely in the UK , including
'The Simple Truth' at Norwich Gallery, the Mostyn Open 2003 and
the group show, 'The Sleep of Reason', curated by Gerhard Stromberg.
A paperback catalogue has been published to coincide with the exhibition,
with an essay by curator Michael Harrison, Kettle's Yard. The catalogue
will be available from the gallery during the exhibition.
