Alexandra Leykauf and Becky Beasley

Join us for an informal presentation by artists Alexandra Leykauf and Becky Beasley who will be speaking their work and plans for their projects in Southend-on-Sea with ARC Director Ben Roberts.
This summer both artists will be spending time in Southend researching and developing new work about the area. Leykauf will be focusing on female representations of landscape, while Beasley is writing a new work of science fiction based on the history of the town. Events, workshops and screenings will be held throughout the summer which are free and open to everyone.

Artists’ Information Alexandra Leykauf. Over the course of 2017 Leykauf, who is based in Berlin, will be travelling to Essex carrying out research at libraries and archives in support of her work into the history of landscape and feminism. Making connections with academics and research projects in Essex University
and staff and curators in the Southend Libraries and Museums service, Leykauf will work with the Artists’ Research Centre to develop a programme of events reflecting her thinking and creative practice.
Becky Beasley joins the Artists’ Research Centre writers’ programme. During the course of 2017, she will be researching and developing a new work of fiction responding to the history, geography and culture of Southend. The project will result in the publication of her new work in early 2018.
