- Maximum Overdrive Takeover
- 1 July 2017, 6.00pm to 8.00pm
- Focal Point Gallery
Focal Point Gallery presents Sterling Void, a gallery takeover by artist Lucy Woodhouse. This one-off event will respond to the technological apparatus in FPG's current exhibition 'Maximum Overdrive', which is installed in both the gallery and Elmer Square.
Lucy Woodhouse’s ongoing work in the exhibition is based on a zine/graphic novel from 1982 by Eddie Campbell and set in Southend. A series of displays present the manipulation of everyday online and offline technologies to explore the ideas of youth culture and tribalism. The work uses familiar facial recognition software to draw tension between real and digital images, seeing from the point of view of the machine, as the zine said: “…we ain’t really here…just a bunch of ghosts”. Behind Sight (shadow) is installed across two monitors spanning the gallery’s foyer, utilising software algorithms to continually process a set of images and sounds over the duration of the exhibition.
This event is FREE and all are welcome.
