  • New Geographies: Public Art Commissions Surgery
  • 25 January 2018, 6.30 to 8.30pm
  • Twenty One

Forming part of Focal Point Gallery's Professional Development Programme for Artists, this session will aim to provide practical advice for making applications to public art commissions. This comes in advance of the deadline for expression of interests for the New Geographies programme on Sunday 29 January.

The surgery will provide insight into aspects of audience engagement and response that artists should consider when applying to work in the public sector, and approach how artists might best discuss their practice in this forum. The session will include introductions from and a discussion between Art on the Underground curator Kiera Blakey, artist Alan Kane, freelance curator Rose Lejeune and New Geographies project manager Matt Nightingale. Chaired by FPG Director Joe Hill, this group have extensive experience working as or with artists in public art, particularly in the east of England. The discussion will be followed by an open Q and A about generally working in the public sector, and responses

to any questions particularly relating to the New Geographies commissions.
