Focal Point Gallery is committed to encouraging participation and understanding of the arts and we run an exciting programme of formal and informal educational events and activities for all ages. Visits, talks, projects and workshops for young people and adults are available (see current education page). The gallery also organises residencies and outreach projects, connected to the exhibition programme (see current projects page)
Children’s and family workshops are designed to be fun and to enable participants to engage with exhibitions. We use a broad range of media and approaches from storytelling, drawing and painting to photography and digital imaging.
By providing a stimulating, accessible and varied Education and Outreach Programme the gallery offers the opportunity for a wide range of audiences to engage with the exhibition programme and the work of professional artists. Education and outreach projects form part of the core artistic programme of the gallery and are conceived in tandem with exhibitions.

We believe that participation in contemporary arts allows the opportunity for personal development and contributes to the quality of life for both the individual and the community as a whole. Through our education and outreach programme we aim to offer opportunities for both those in mainstream education and individuals from disadvantaged, excluded or minority groups to participate in the work of the gallery. The gallery is responsive to the needs of all visitors and wherever possible guided tours or tailored sessions will be offered by gallery staff to groups approaching the gallery, alongside projects and events conceived and developed with particular groups in mind.

Two of our Key Aims:

• To promote understanding of contemporary practice in lens based media and to enable visitors to engage with exhibitions at a variety of levels

• To make contemporary photography and new media arts accessible to a diverse range of audiences

The gallery is accessible to wheelchair users and welcomes all less able visitors including those with special educational needs.
