Focal Point Gallery
Offsite Programme 2010 to 2012

Focal Point Gallery has received funding from Arts Council England and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council to produce a series of offsite projects in Southend-on-Sea and the wider Thames Gateway between September 2010 and September 2012.

Temporary interventions, exhibitions and installations by contemporary artists are planned with a series of partners to provide an exciting programme of events and linked educational opportunities for the local community over the next two year period.

The purpose of these projects is to generate a positive public outlook towards contemporary art and the environment within the town, and a feeling of optimism towards the planned changes and the regeneration process in the Thames Gateway. These projects will respond critically to this context, and allow for vibrant change, as well as an increased audience for culture and contemporary art in the area.

Mark Titchner

March and April 2012

Mark Titchner will be the second artist to be included in Focal Point Gallery’s bi-annual site-specific temporary public project, produced for the exterior of the railway bridge that crosses the town's pedestrianised high street. Like other works in this series, Mark's project will be made in partnership with the students and staff at South Essex College, and with kind permission of Network Rail.
